Black Magic Voodoo Cake

Black Magic Cake sounds like an old voodoo woman's baking trick to lure men into her throws, and while I can't deny that it could very well be used in that matter, I'll assure you that the only magic this cake possesses is the ability to disapear. Literally, and I'm serious, this cake lasted 15 minutes in my kitchen. It was that good. A moist chocolate cake covered in the perfect frosting really leaves little room for exaggerration. It's good, duh! So while I could sit hear and explain how the chocolate flavors seep into your mouth like warm molasses and the flavors burst giving you a chocolate comatose kind of feeling... I think that would be complete torture.. So here's the recipe, enjoy and tell me what you think of this Black Magic Voodoo Cake!

Ingredients:

  • 1 3/4 cup sifted flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup black coffee (I used Starbucks!)
  • 1 cup (unpacked) cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons sea salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup vegatable oil

Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup salted butter softened
  • 2 ounces melted sweetened chocolate (room temp)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3-4 cups sifted powdered sugar

Directions:

  1. Combine your dry ingredients leaving out the coffee: sifted flour, granulated sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add all your wet ingredients and coffee while continuing to mix: eggs, coffee, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla. Beat together at a low speed and moving up to a higher speed for two minutes. The batter will seem a little runny.
  3. Pour batter into your two greased 9 inch cake pans.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. I of course took my cake out early.
  5. Combine frosting ingredients and mix with a hand or stand mixer. Spread frosting on cooled cakes.
